Chris High reviews the popular album by Dido - Life For Rent

DIDO - LIFE FOR RENT 2004

Dido - Life For Rent front of the album cover
When I was young, I spurned female vocalists. None of them lit my fuse (except maybe for Heart, but only because I fancied Nancy Wilson). Oh how times have changed.
I now listen to as many female vocalists as I do their male counterparts. Perhaps it's an age "mellowing" thing?

Dido's second album is quite simply, superb. From the opening hit, White Flag, to the closing See The Sun , she has crafted an album of pure professionalism.

Of course, Miss Armstrong has not managed this alone - her brother, Rollo, had a big hand in writing the material - but it's her self confidence that shines through. She knows what she wants to say and knows exactly how to say it.
Many of those who I have asked have said the same of her talents: "Oh yeah, I stick her stuff on if we've got friends around for dinner". Basically, she's background music that you might recognise in a lift, to many. This is a gross injustice.
Do yourselves a favour, get the coats for your mates and turn up the volume. She's well worth the effort!
