THE CAVE

Director: Bruce Hunt
Sony Screengems / Lakeshore Entertainment

Alien meets Predator meets Abyss is a way of describing this slick paced, if sometimes incredible, action-horror.

Seven divers discover the entrance to a mysterious cave and subsequently disappear. Thirty years later - for some reason - a team of crack divers follow in their footsteps only to discover that all is not well beneath the ruins of the old church that had collapsed and secured the original outfit underground.

THE CAVE -
FILM/MOVIE REVIEW

As with all movies of this nature, there are plenty of "Jump-In-Your-Seat" moments, as the team plunge headlong through waterlogged grottos, around dark bends and into holes that any sane person would leave well alone.

Morris Chestnut plays a convincing, dark and moody leader of the second team, whilst Lena Heady should run a real scientific institute if this is the level of calm, assured candour she can bring to such an operation on the big screen. However, the characters do tend to become a little one-dimensional after awhile, and it's left to some stunning photography and excellent CGI created monsters to carry the film along, all of which is well worth a visit to the cinema to enjoy in full. Waiting for the DVD will diminish the sense of space that the Director, Bruce Hunt, has managed to evoke, but sadly it's also a film that leaves the audience saying that they've seen it all before, if not all in one bundle.
