Kevin "Bloody" Wilson

The D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. Tour
Liverpool Empire

Sunday September 13, 2009

Totally irreverent, totally un-PC and totally hilarious, the Australian songster Kevin Wilson celebrates 25 years of doing what comes naturally on this tour.

Okay, so the titles of the songs show the baseness of the humour – not so much toilet, more like sewer level – but what they don’t demonstrate is their cleverness. Taking well established tunes such as Smokie’s Living Next Door To Alice and turning it into a song about a bunch of Aborigines moving next door to Australia’s equivalent of Robert Maxwell, Mr Alan Bond, is no mean feat.  To make it side-crackingly funny, and almost completely inoffensive, is a work of genius that needs applauding.

It Was Over, Before It Began tells of teenage hormones running riot. Santa Claus illustrates how things have changed generationally. D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. shows how much those who protest about his work affects him. If you want to know what D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. means, by the way, buy the album.

Only KBW would have his daughter supporting him and Jenny Talia is proof if proof is needed that apples rarely fall far from the tree. Sporting a black, sparkly blouse, skin-tight leggings and high-heeled black leather boots, the blonde bombshell prowls the stage with her guitar regaling stories of how she met her American husband, whilst punctuating her act with songs every bit as explicit as her dad’s and equally as funny.

If you’re easily offended, don’t go. If you like Chubby Brown, don’t go because this is clever not simply an abusive tirade of nothingness. If, however, you like to have your ribs aching with laughter, then Kevin “Bloody” Wilson is the man for you and I urge you to grasp a ticket while he’s here.
